Dear Yuletide Writer,

Thanks again! And I'm generally pretty easy to please. Looking forward to whatever you produce!

Dear Yuletide Writer,

First of all, thank you so much for doing this exchange! I really appreciate this.
For the most part, I’ve put my DNWs in my sign-up; sometimes I don’t get around to writing these letters and I wanted you to have something to work with. But since it looks like I’m doing this…

Details under cut... )

Thanks again! Looking forward to reading what you come up with!

Dear Yuletide Writer:

Details Under Cut! )

Thanks again! I can't wait to see what you come up with!

P.S. I'm going to be out of town between December 22nd and January 5th. I'm not sure how often I'll be online. I'll be checking my email, but I may not get a chance to read/comment until I come home. (I'll have my phone, but I'm discovering how frustrating it is to type text on one of those after years of just using a desktop.) Please be patient with me if my feedback/acknowledgment has to wait until I'm back home!

Dear Yuletide Author,

First of all, thank you so much for doing this! I really appreciate it.

I tried to be detailed in my signup post, but just in case more clarification is needed, here we go.

1) I'm mostly about gen, but canon friendships that could become something else/have subtext are fine. I like witty banter. No PWP, though.
2) My comfort zone is All Ages and/or Teen. If the reason for a 'mature' rating is a couple of F-bombs or you're including some violence and rating it high to be safe, that's okay. I'm just not looking for explicit sex scenes.
3) I'm a sucker for angst, hurt-comfort, divergence AUs, friendship, and happy endings. And that would include 'hopeful' endings, too. Something along the lines of "Despite everything that fate's tossed our way, we're still here and we're not going anywhere. Maybe we lost the battle, but we'll win the war!" is 100% okay. As is a bona-fide happy ending.
4) Angst over canonical character death is fine. Please don't kill off a character in the fic.

Fandom specifics:

Daredevil:

As mentioned, I'm a sucker for Matt-Foggy bromance. I love them as friends, but I don't ship them romantically. As long as that friendship is there, you can give me additional characters and the plot of your choice. I like Matt angsty and I like Foggy savvy (please, no Silver Age buffoonery). Ben and Milla are fine to add, but not necessary.

Dungeons and Dragons:

I love all of the Young Ones and had more of them been nominated, I would have listed them all. Also, this is one of the few times I wouldn't mind romance (Hank/Sheila). Gen is good, too. Wide open here. Give me something in the Realm or a before-the-ride or an after-they-got-home. I'm not really interested in DM-centric or Venger-centric, but no problem if you're inspired to use them in your fic, so long as the Young Ones are front and center. Use as many of the six as you like.

Spider-Gwen

I like Matt and Gwen as adversaries/frenemies. Something where they're forced to work together (either the way it is in canon, where Matt is blackmailing her, or some reason why they would unite in the field against a common foe, albeit temporarily) would be good. Supporting cast is fine; there really isn't anyone I dislike in the comic, though I prefer Castle in small doses.

Thanks again!

Back Again... Different From Before )
dragonbat2006: Canon Error (Default)
My original assignment has been up for awhile. Did a post-Dec 18th pinch-hit also. I usually try to take on a pinch-hit, if I have a passing familiarity with one of the fandoms. But after the initial posting deadline, I only step up if, after reading the request/characters/prompt I get a clear idea for a fic. With more time to pick away at it, I'll do it if I like the characters and have a vague idea that I can probably do something with the prompt, but with 4 days or less to submit, I need something more concrete.

Well, I got it and wrote it in two days. Spent another day rereading and fine-tuning.

So. Two fics in two fandoms I've never written in before. Fingers crossed that the recipients will like. And I see my own gift waiting in the queue for the archive to open. It taunts me.

Sigh. I'm gonna write some Batfic now.

Rating: K+
Genre(s): General, Drama, Friendship, Weird Sandwiches
Spoilers: Passing references to Vol. 1 #56
Warnings: None

Story Summary: With Matt AWOL and Foggy rushing to the courthouse, it's up to office manager Karen Page to show the new summer intern the ropes. But Kirsten McDuffie has a few ideas of her own on that score!
Written for: Elizabeth Culmer(edenfalling) for Yuletide 2015

Notes:

This fic takes place before Matt fakes his death in DD Vol. 1, No. 54 (and before Karen learns that Matt and DD are one and the same).

In Daredevil Season 1 (the hardcover GN, not the Netflix show), Karen's position was upgraded from secretary to office manager. I'm going with that.

Thanks to Xenith and Kathy for the beta!

A/N: The Bucks County Museum in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire is quite real, though according to their website, there is no Keeper of Medieval Collections. I’ve taken the liberty of inventing that post for Will, so as not to ‘depose’ the real-life existing Keeper of Archeology Collections. And while, according to Wikipedia, in the UK, the terms ‘curator’ and ‘keeper’ may be used interchangeably in a museum setting, Bucks does use the ‘keeper’ designation.

Timeline: I’m using the publication year of Over Sea, Under Stone as “Ground Zero”. The Grail is found in 1965; Will celebrates his eleventh birthday that December—making him 60 for most of 2015; Will and the Drews meet in Trewissick during the Easter holidays of 1966; Will meets Bran in Wales that fall; and the final battle between the Light and the Dark takes place in the summer of 1967. I’ll admit that making it plausible for Bran and Jane to have a grandson who was the ‘seventh son of a seventh son’ was a factor in going with the earlier dating.

There is a Yuletide gift sitting in my inbox, waiting for the archive to open (hopefully, in less than an hour). I see it there. Mocking me. Telling me "I was written for you, but you can't open me, yet."

Wow. Okay, I think I can relate now to what my Christian friends go through seeing packages with their names on them under the tree... to be opened in the morning.

Meanwhile, I wait. And wonder if my recipients* are also waiting. And anticipating.

Hoping they like what I sent!

*I did a pinch-hit, as well as my initial assignment.

This is a Yuletide pinch-hit fic-to-spec. Please to be staying on-prompt and not to be steering the fic in the direction you want to be going. That means You, Ms Stubborn!

Yuletide fic just went to the betas! 4,500 words, a goodly amount of research, and a lot of fun!
dragonbat2006: Canon Error (Default)
I'm at 1040 words, which means that from here on in, I can just focus on telling the story without worrying about not making the minimum length. Helps that I'm doing a book canon and trying to imitate the author's style. I don't mean that I'm deliberately copying it, so much as falling naturally into it as I refamiliarize myself with the text. This author tends to write a prose that flows very well, but tends toward more formal language for third-person narration. (Dialogue is a mix of formal and informal, depending on the character speaking.) And 'more formal' doesn't quite mean "wordy", but it does mean "a bit wordier".

Hoping to have this finished in a few days time.
dragonbat2006: Canon Error (Default)
First of all, thank you so much! I really appreciate your taking the time to do this!

A short list of what I'd rather not read in any fandom )

For the fandoms listed, here's a brief rundown of what I'd love. (Though really, apart from the squicks/dislikes above, I'm pretty flexible. So if you've got a great idea for an Action/adventure fic, where I said I prefer comedy... go ahead and write the action/adventure.

Daredevil (comics): I'm here for the bromance. I don't ship these characters with each other, but if you want to include other characters in the fic and have some romance as a subplot, that's fine. As long as you have the Matt-Foggy friendship front and center, you can include anyone else you want to (nominated or otherwise). Oh and I should mention that I'm not a purist. Meaning that if you want to include Karen Page, but you think her comics personality pales compared to her portrayal on the Netflix show—or if you've got Matt and Foggy discussing a tenants rights case and you want to refer back to 'the time they were ready to take on Armand Tully', I'm fine. As long as you're setting it in the Comics universe, you can import elements from other media if it suits you. Oh and I'm not fussy about the Volumes. I've read all of 2–4 and whatever parts of 1 are available at Comixology and Marvel Unlimited. I've found things to love about almost all story arcs.

Princeless: I love this comic with the intensity of a million fiery suns. Give me action, give me adventure, friendship, comedy, satire, as many other characters as you want, so long as it's Adrienne-centric. Please no Crueltide for this one. Angst is fine—especially if it's overblown, melodramatic teen angst over something which Adrienne will probably look back on one day and laugh but is a complete and utter catastrophe. Big fan of genfic.

Spider-Gwen: Matt and Gwen. Give me some sort of confrontation between the two, either shipping (frenemies), uneasy alliance, friendship, whatever.

Thanks again!
